Machairas national forest covers the northeastern slopes of the Troodos range. It covers an area of more than 6000 hectares or 61 km2. It extends from Larnaca and Nicosia districts at an altitude of 300 m to the Kionia mountain at 1423 m. At this area there are interesting trails offering rich flora and amazing views. The hikers can combine the trekking activity with the visit of an old monastery and of some traditional villages hiding among the slopes.

Itineraries

Day 1

Lefkara village

Arrive at Lefkara village and explore the picturesque village known for the handmade traditional lace and silver filigree jewellery. Overnight at Lefkara.

Day 2

Natural trail of Lefkara up to Katodrys village.(6 km, 3 hours)

There you will have the opportunity to experience a local honey tasting and learn about the bees and the honey varieties in Cyprus. Afterwards, you will continue walking through the rural road for about half an hour and you will arrive at Christoudia Winery for a guiding through the place and a wine tasting. A vehicle will meet you there and take you at Vavatsinia village for the night.

Day 3

Discover part of the Machairas forest (15 km, 5 hours)

You will come across the picnic site of the area and continue with the trail kakokefalos - mantra tou kampiou. A vehicle will return you back at the village for the night.

Day 4

Part of the E4 trail (9km, 4 hours)

A vehicle will transfer you up at kionia peak and from there you will walk the trail which is part of the E4 Kionia – Machairas Monastery – Lazanias – Fikardou. (9km, 4 hours) Night at fikardou village.

Day 5

Fikardou - Machairas monastery - Politiko. (12 km, 5h)

From Fikardou village we will go back to the monastery and from there proceed to Politiko village with a rich history to discover. Overnight at the nearby village Pera.

Day 6

Departure

Discover the village and transfer to the airport for departure
