Itineraries
Day 1
Arrival and Transfer at the hotel/agrotouristic establishment
If time permits the hikers will enjoy a short walking trail of 8 km around the highest peak of Troodos.
Day 2
Atalanti trail (14 km, 6 hours)
The trail is named after the mythological Atalanta, a proud huntress and runner, protector of the Goddess Artemis. The route circles around Mount Olympus (Chionistra) at a lower altitude than the Artemis Trail and passes through dense areas of black pine (pinus nigra) and Troodos juniper. One of them is a huge 800-year-old juniper tree. On the trail you will find information signs about the plants, shrubs and trees of the mountain range and characteristic rocks of the Troodos ophiolite complex. Overnight at Troodos square.
Day 3
Mnimata twn piskopwn (11,5 km, 5 hours)
The trail passes through thickets of black pine and follows a route by the cliff’s edge, with views toward Chromium River, Solea Valley, Morfou Bay and Chionistra peak. The rich vegetation at the beginning of the trail, comprised of black pine and juniper, gradually gives way to Calabrian pine at lower altitudes (below 1,400 metres). The route ends up on the Platania - Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis forest road and turning right you will arrive at Platania picnic site. Through a forest road you will go at Kakopetria village. Overnight at Kakopetria village.
Day 4
Walking within the villages Kakopetria and Galata. (10 km, 3hours)
You will traverse both villages and visit byzantine monuments decorated with old frescos. St Nikolaos tis stegis church in Kakopetria, Panayia tis podithou and Archangel Michel church in Galata.
Day 5
Kakopetria – Pedoulas. (18 km, 5 hours)
Walk towards the west through the dense valley of these two villages. You will arrive at Pedoulas village and walk through its narrow streets and visit the little byzantine chapel of Archangel Michel. Overnight at the village.
Day 6
Pedoulas – Moutoulas – Kalopanayiotis. (15km, 4 hours)
You will take the secondary road to go at the nearby village of Moutoulas where you will walk through a natural trail along rich vegetation mostly consisting by fruit orchards, you will pass by a river and a spring with sulphur water and then you will discover the little byzantine church of Panayia. Then continue the walking up to the next village, Kalopanayiotis. You will walk an old trade path and arrive at the old monastery of St John Lampadistis. After visiting this amazing church, you continue the walk up to Oikos village and finally return back to Kalopanayiotis for the night.
